“When Breaking a Current” was an interactive performance and installation in the iconic Volksbühne, Berlin. Safety glasses were passed out as people walked into the theatre foyer. Once the audience had assembled, Mira O’Brien emerged from an outside entrance, wielding a hammer. At a certain point, another hammer was brought out, and the audience was invited to participate. For about half an hour, anyone who wanted to take a turn with the hammer had their chance.
